After the disappearance of Srila Gurudeva in 1996, Dhruba Maharaja Das requested the then GBC member, Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Maharaja, to advise him how he could preserve Gurudeva’s voice, so that his pure teachings on Krishna consciousness will continue to benefit the world well into the future. The temple provided a room for the Srila Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja Tape Ministry and a loan of 10 thousand rupees. Dhruba Maharaj Das was able to pay back the loan within a short time after securing permission to open a book table inside Govinda’s restaurant, and from book and paraphernalia sales he was able to purchase three computers for editing, two audio decks for capturing audio and video and one Disks/DVD copying machine.
From the beginning he never received donations from any outside source with the exception of accepting a tape player given by Bhaktin Karen. From that touble cassette player he was able to copy lectures and begin the tape ministry. For ten years he struggled to build up the necessary equipment to produce audio and video lectures of Srila Gurudeva that are now widely distributed throughout the world.
To date, the tape ministry has preserved nearly 30 volumes of mp3 English lectures. Each volume contains almost 12 hours of audio. There are also nearly 30 volumes of Oriya mp3 lectures. Each volume contains about 10 hours audio.
Initially we sent thirty video cassettes to technicians outside the temple for reformatting, but the quality of work was so poor we were forced to purchase our own equipment. With that equipment we are now making DVDs of Gurudeva’s lectures with English subtitles. It is a seva that is open to anyone in the world, to render these DVD lectures into other languages. Some of the current subtitled lectures are listed below.
