Travelling Sankirtana Party - T.S.K.P.
The idea of a group of devotees going out on book distribution, traveling by bus, with deities, was conceived in 1975. That department became known as the Traveling Sankirtan Party. In1985 Gour Govinda Maharaja obtained a six-wheeler bus. He installed Their Lordships Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra Devi, one pujari, one cook and book distributors and they set off for months at a time, to spread Krishna consciousness throughout the length and breadth of Orissa. It was so successful that in 1995 the temple was able to purchase another bus for the same purpose. In 2004 a third bus, the Sri Sri Krishna Balaram bus was outfitted for book distribution. This bus went further, reaching people living outside of Orissa. Presently there are twenty-one devotees engaged on the three buses, for book distribution. There is one sankirtan leader for each bus. One devotee takes care of accounts, stock, and storage of paraphernalia and books. One devotee is engaged in keeping day-to-day records and monthly report. Two devotees are engaged in the Bhaktivedanta bookstall inside the temple compound. There are two marathons each year, May and November.
