In Veda, gomata (cow) is described as one of the seven mothers. As mother she provides human society with exceptional riches, known in Veda as panca-gavya, consisting of milk, ghee, yogurt, urine and dung. From her milk many varieties of tasteful foodstuffs can be prepared. From the cow’s urine and cow dung one can produce wholesome organic fruits and vegetables.
Therefore we treat the cow as a family member and give her proper respect. All the karmik reactions coming through different grahas (planets) will be destroyed simply by serving the cows. All-auspiciousness comes to one who sees the cheerful face of gomata, while going to perform some important work. Therefore, it is the responsibility of human society in general to give them protection. At present, so-called human society is killing cows, eating their meat and maintaining slaughter houses in the name of development. This is a most sinful activity. The reaction of which is neither happiness in this life nor in any future life.

This is why Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder-acharya of ISKCON has given emphasis on cow protection. In this society he established many goshalas to give protection to the cow. Following in the footprints of his spiritual master, our revered Gurudeva, His Divine Grace Srila Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja established a goshala and farm project at Atala, Jagannathpur Village, 12 km from our main ISKCON temple in Bhubaneswar. At present we have eighty (80) cows on the goshala farm. We plan to increase the number of cows in the near future. To take proper care of the cows and to develop a high standard for their maintenance we need your help, support and co-operation either by financial assistance, medicine or animal-feed.
