One
of the features of Vaisnavism is the various number
of festivals throughout the year. Festivals provide
an opportunity to remember Sri Krishna and His devotees
and to increase one's spiritual practice. The year's
major festivals are marked by fasting, usually followed
by feasting.
The Vaisnava year is based on a lunar
calendar rather than a solar calendar. This means
that the dates of the festivals vary from year to
year.
The three major festivals
held at ISKCON Bhubaneswar are Sri Nityananda Trayodasi,
Sri Ratha Yatra and Sri Janmastami. Other festivals
celebrated are the Holy Appearance and Disappearance
days of Srila Gurudeva, Srila Prabhupada, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta
Sarasvati Thakura Goswami Srila Prabhupada and Srila
Bhaktivinoda Thakura and our other previous Acarya’s,
Sri Siva Ratri, Sri Gaura Purnima, Sri Rama Navami,
Sri Chandana Yatra, Sri Nrsingha Caturdasi, Sri Snana
Yatra, Sri Jhulana Yatra, Sri Balarama’s Appearance
Day, Sri Radhastami, Sri Vamana Dvadasi, Sri Kartika
Damodara Vrata, Sri Govardhana Puja, Sri Go Puja,
